ALBERT

Albert is a very pretty city, where memories of the First World War are omnipresent. Cradle of the machine-tool tradition for over a century, the city’s motto is ‘vis mea ferrum’ (my strength is in the iron). The stained glass windows of the beautiful city hall are talented reminder of the industrial activity that has marked the city. In addition to the Basilica Notre Dame de Brebières and Jeu de Paume Theatre, Albert is also home to the Musée des Abris. Located in an underground tunnel, with reconstructions of trench scenes, dugouts, trench mortar positions and tunnelling from the War of 1914-1918, the museum is as unusual as it is original.
